Multi-Carrier Shipping Rate Management for Australia & Oceania

Client scenario
OmniGrowth.com.au - formerly EconNote
Business archetype
Shipping Rate Management & Carrier Comparison Platform
The scale
Web-based platform for managing and comparing shipping rates across multiple carriers, built for delivery operations across Australia and Oceania.
The objective
Provide a centralized workflow for retrieving, comparing, and selecting shipping rates across multiple carriers, connected to the client's e-commerce operations.
The Challenge
Current State
Before the platform was built, comparing shipping rates meant checking pricing separately through each carrier's own system. This made it difficult to:
- Compare delivery pricing across multiple carriers in one place
- Evaluate which carrier offered a suitable rate for a given shipment
- Manage shipping pricing consistently across Australia and Oceania
A centralized way to retrieve and compare carrier rates was needed to simplify shipping decisions.
“Pain” Point
01
Shipping rates had to be checked separately through each carrier's own system
02
No centralized view of available delivery pricing across carriers
03
Comparing rates manually made it harder to select a suitable, cost-effective option
Hidden Risks
- Fragmented rate-checking increased the effort required to manage shipping decisions
- Without a centralized comparison workflow, cost-aware shipping choices were harder to make consistently
- Disconnected e-commerce and shipping workflows added extra manual steps
Constraints & Risks
Technical Constraints
- Integrations were needed with multiple shipping carriers, including TNT, to retrieve rate data
- The platform needed a consistent way to compare pricing that varies across carriers, destinations, and services
- Shopify needed to be connected to the platform's shipping and rate-management workflows
Operational Risks
- The platform needed to support real shipping decisions for an active e-commerce business
- Incomplete or inaccurate rate data could lead to a less suitable carrier being selected
Decision & Trade-offs
01. The Core Decision
SP-Lutsk designed and developed a web-based platform to manage shipping rates in a centralized workflow, including:
- Integrations with multiple shipping carriers, including TNT
- Workflows for retrieving and comparing carrier rates
- A Shopify integration connecting e-commerce operations to shipping rate management
- Core shipping and pricing workflows for the Australia and Oceania market
The platform gave the client one place to evaluate delivery pricing instead of checking rates through separate carrier systems.
02. The Trade-offs
The team focused on reliable rate retrieval and comparison across carriers rather than building a broader logistics or fulfillment suite. The priority was making multi-carrier rate comparison genuinely useful and connected to the client's Shopify store, not adding unrelated functionality.
03. Why not "Use Off-the-Shelf Tools"?
Checking rates directly through individual carrier portals didn't provide a centralized way to compare pricing or connect that pricing to the client's e-commerce workflow. A dedicated platform was built to bring multi-carrier rate management and Shopify together into a single workflow.
What the platform does
Core Capabilities
01
Multi-Carrier Rate Retrieval
The platform retrieves shipping rate information from multiple carriers, including TNT, bringing pricing data into a single workflow.
02
Rate Comparison
Available delivery rates are presented together, making it easier to compare pricing across carriers before selecting a shipping option.
03
Shipping Option Selection
The platform supports selecting a suitable, cost-effective shipping option based on the available rate comparison.
04
Shopify Integration
A Shopify integration connects e-commerce operations with the platform's shipping and rate-management workflows.
05
Australia & Oceania Coverage
Shipping rate management is built around delivery operations across Australia and Oceania.
06
Centralized Shipping Workflow
Rate retrieval, comparison, and selection are managed through a single platform instead of separate carrier systems.
Impact
What changed after the engagement.
Operational Outcome
- Shipping rates from multiple carriers, including TNT, became available in one centralized workflow
- Delivery pricing became easier to compare before selecting a shipping option
- E-commerce operations connected directly to shipping rate management through the Shopify integration
Business Value
- Reduced the need to compare rates manually across separate carrier systems
- Supported more informed and cost-aware shipping decisions
- Connected e-commerce workflows with multi-carrier shipping rate management
- Provided a software foundation for shipping operations across Australia and Oceania
Key Notes
Lessons Learned
What we learned from this engagement.
Centralizing carrier data pays off early: bringing multiple carriers into one comparison workflow made shipping decisions noticeably easier to manage.
Connecting e-commerce and shipping workflows matters: the Shopify integration meant shipping rate management wasn't a separate, disconnected step.
A focused scope holds up over time: staying focused on rate retrieval and comparison, rather than building a broader logistics suite, kept the platform practical and maintainable as one of our earliest projects.
Project background
One of SP-Lutsk's earliest projects
Originally launched as EconNote around 2019, the platform is now known as OmniGrowth.com.au. It remains one of the earliest software projects built by SP-Lutsk, and its focus on simplifying multi-carrier shipping rate management for the Australian market shaped how we approach logistics software today.
“One platform to compare shipping rates across carriers - not five different portals.”
